FUE and DHI/GII refer to different stages of hair transplantation. FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is a method of harvesting individual hair follicular units from the donor area. DHI (Direct Hair Implantation), technically GII (Graft Insertion using an Implanter), refers to an implantation technique that uses a specialised implanter device to place grafts into the recipient area. Therefore, they are not necessarily competing procedures. FUE extraction can be combined with DHI/GII implantation when appropriate for the patient’s hair restoration plan.
